Activities
The First National Conference on Recent Advancements in Engineering and Technology (RAET 25), held on March 21 st and 22 nd, 2025, successfully brought together over 80 teams from academia/industry to present their papers on cutting-edge developments in engineering and technology.
A one-day workshop on "Automating with Embedded Systems" was conducted on February 25, 2025. The workshop was led by Manu Thomas and Rahul V.A., Assistant Professors in the ASH and ECE departments, respectively. The workshop aimed to provide hands-on experience in automating systems using embedded technology.
Dr. N.S. Sreekanth, Associate Professor and Head of department (IT) at Kannur University, delivered an expert talk on "Unveiling Innovation: A Deep Dive into Patent Filing Process" on February 17, 2025. Dr. Sreekanth shared his expertise on the patent filing process, emphasizing its importance for innovators and startups. His talk covered the patent filing procedure, challenges, and opportunities, providing a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) in association with Impulse, the Electronics Department Association, organized an expert talk on "Opportunities in VLSI Design" on January 15, 2025.

Dr. J. William, Principal and Professor, Roever Engineering College, shared his expertise on 5G NR overview and 6G vision and features, followed by an interactive Q&A session,
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), in association with Impulse (Electronics Department Association) and IEDC STM, organized an expert talk on "Engineer to Entrepreneur: Transforming Ideas into Reality" on October 25, 2024.The keynote speaker for the event was Mr. Akhil Raj, CEO of Aimy Luminaries Pvt. Ltd. During the talk, Mr. Akhil Raj emphasized the importance of innovation, risk-taking, and perseverance in the journey from being an engineer to becoming a successful entrepreneur. He shared his personal experiences, highlighting the challenges he faced and the lessons he learned along the way.The objective of the event was to motivate and inspire students to transform their ideas into reality, and to provide them with a platform to learn from the experiences of a successful entrepreneur.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with Impulse (Electronics Department Association) and IEDC STM, successfully conducted a Two-Day Workshop on Advanced Embedded Systems and IoT for S5 ECE students on 27th and 28th September 2024. The workshop aimed to equip students with hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of embedded systems and the Internet of Things (IoT), two key technologies driving modern innovation.The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Kathiru Santhikumar, CEO of Thinkfotech Innovations, who shared his industry insights and expertise on cutting-edge advancements in embedded systems and IoT applications. The event was coordinated by Mr. Manu Thomas, Assistant Professor in the Department of ECE, who ensured the workshop's success.
On 9th September 2024, the Electronics Department Association of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department proudly launched its new title and logo. The unveiling was done by Mr. Ashok Rajan, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Cargo and Logistics Solutions at IBS Software, during the inauguration ceremony of 2024-28 batch.
The new logo, designed by Abhay Rithik from the 2021-25 batch, embodies the spirit of innovation and progress that the association strives to uphold.
On 9th September 2024, the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department released the newsletter ECE Herald. The release was done by Mr. Ashok Rajan, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Cargo and Logistics Solutions at IBS Software, during the inauguration ceremony of 2024-28 batch.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering successfully organized a Two-Day Workshop on Antenna Design and Simulation Using HFSS on 29th and 30th August 2024. The workshop was conducted for S7 ECE students to enhance their understanding of antenna theory and practical simulation techniques using HFSS software.The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Binesh K, Assistant Professor, CoET, who shared his extensive expertise in antenna design and simulation. Ms. Sreetha Sreedhar K, Asst. Professor in ECE Department, the staff coordinator for the event, ensured the smooth coordination of the event.
On August 16, 2024, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) organized an industry talk titled "Enhancing Workplace Safety: Insights from Industrial Safety Engineering." The session was led by Mr. Karthik Rohil, Senior Manager (HSE).
Karthik Rohil provided valuable insights into modern practices and strategies for improving workplace safety. His discussion covered key aspects of industrial safety engineering, including risk assessment, safety protocols, and the implementation of effective safety management systems.
Ms. Sreetha Sreedhar K., Assistant Professor in ECE Department, was the staff coordinator for the event.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering hosted a range of engaging competitions to celebrate National Space Day 2024 (NSpD 2024) on August 9, 2024. The event featured a quiz, painting contest, short story writing competition, and poster design challenge, offering participants a variety of ways to showcase their creativity and knowledge related to space.
On May 2, 2024, Electronics Department Association of STM hosted an enlightening expert talk on "Unlocking the Potential of Wireless Communication." The session was conducted by Dr. V. Vinod Kumar, a renowned professor from the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department at Government Engineering College Kannur. This event was specifically designed for final year ECE students, aiming to broaden their understanding and spark interest in the ever-evolving field of wireless communication.
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering hosted a specialized workshop titled "Mastering MATLAB: A Hands-On Workshop for Communication Lab Applications" on April 30, 2024. This workshop was led by Dr. Anetha Mary Soman, a distinguished professor from the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department.
Workshop Objectives:
- To introduce participants to the fundamental concepts of MATLAB.
- To demonstrate the application of MATLAB in simulating various communication systems.
- To develop participants' proficiency in MATLAB programming for analyzing and designing communication systems.
- To explore advanced MATLAB features and toolboxes relevant to communication application
Target Audience: The workshop was designed for sixth semester ECE students
The one day workshop was organized by the Electronic Department Association for the second year ECE students. The venue of the workshop was Electronic Circuits Lab. The faculty members of ECE department along with 23 students actively participated in the workshop.
The expert talk was organized by the Electronics Department Association for the S4 S6 and S8 ECE students. The session was handled by Mr. Sruthin Balachandran V V Senior Physical Design Engineer, Quest Global PvT Ltd, Bangalore.
A two day workshop on Embedded System Development was jointly organised by department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with IEDC STM on 12/10/2023 & 13/10/2023. The workshop aimed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of embedded systems, their applications, and hands-on experience in designing and programming embedded systems.
The expert talk was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering for the B.Tech S4 & S6 students of the department. The session was handled by Dr. D. Anto Sahaya Dhas (Professor and HoD, Vimal Jyothi Engineering College)
The two day workshop was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association with IEDC STM, for the second year and third year ECE students and selected students from CSE. The venue of the workshop was SH2, EC lab and Computer Lab 1. The faculty members of ECE department along with 33 students actively participated in the workshop.
The expert talk was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering for the B.Tech final year students of the department. The venue was organized through virtual mode using Google Meet. The session was handled by Dr. Jayarenjini N. (Board of Studies Member- APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University) Associate Professor in ECE Department, ACE College of Engineering.
IoT Club

The IoT (Internet of Things) Club is an initiative taken by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineerig to share knowledge of IoT to students and encourage them to do projects related to IoT.

Organised a Webinar on VLSI and its Career Prospects for the final year and third year students of ECE Dept., on Monday, May 17th, 2021 at 10 am. The session was hanlded by Mr. Ajith A, Synthesis STA Engineer, having more than 15 years of experience in different domains viz. Power Systems, Embedded systems, and VLSI.The objective of the session was to share some fundamentals of VLSI and also about the various job roles in the field of VLSI.
A guest lecture by Dr.Vineeth Valsan,Post Doctoral Fellow,Indian Institute of Astrophysics,Bengaluru on "INDIAS ACHIEVEMENTS &OPPORTUNITIES IN ASTRONOMICAL INSTRUMENTATION" was organized by the department association on 12 th october 2017.The guest lecture was aimed at providing awareness about contributions made by electronics and comminication engineers in the field of astronomical instrumentation as well as to keep the students updated about the opportunities in this relatively unexplored field.
Two day workshop(6th and 7th october 2017) on Internet Of Things -IoT organized by EDA with IEDC ,at St.Thomas College of Engineering and Technology in union with EPSILON Labs,Ernakulam.
The workshop was lead by Mr.Nebu Pulickal,R&D Engineer,EPSILON Labs,Ernakulam.A total of 22 students belonging to S7,S5,S3 of various departments attended the workshop.
The workshop aimed at providing hands on training to participants on Arduino Embedded Platform giving the students explosure in the field of IoT and Embedded systems.
A college level Technical Quiz "Tech -Quiz '17" was conducted by EDA in association with IEDC of St.Thomas College of Engineering and Technology.
The ibjective of this event was to provide a common technical platform for the brains and to extend the benefits of Electronic Department Association amongst all the students of St.Thomas College of Engineering and Technology.
As a part of Department Association Inauguration, a workshop on Embedded System Design was conducted by the Electronics Department Association in union with EPSILON Labs,Ernakulam from 23 rd september 2016 to 24 th septembet 2016.
The association was inaugurated by the principal of St thomas collegfe of engineering and technology,Prof.Shinu Mathew John and workshop was inaugurated by CEO of St thomas collegfe of engineering and technology,Mr.Rijo Thomas Jose.
16 students from S3 ECE and 13 students from S5 ECE attended the workshop.The workshop was lead by the Embedded System Engineer from Epsilon Labs,Mr.Judson Antu.
The workshop aimed to provide hands on session on Proteus Professional 8 Software.Day 1 discussed on Basic Electronics and Schematic Entry.Day 2 discussions were on components and Library ,PCB design and manufacture.
The workshop concluded with valedictory ceremony on 24th september 2016.Certificate distributions were done by the principal, Prof.Shinu Mathew John and Prof Roy Thomas,HOD,Basic Science.The workshop concluded at 3.50pm.
