GeekZone – CSE Department Association

GeekZone is the official student association of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, formed with the vision of nurturing technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration among budding engineers. It serves as a dynamic platform where students come together to explore emerging technologies, exchange ideas, and develop both technical and soft skills essential for a successful career in the IT and software industry.

Through a diverse range of activities — including workshops, hackathons, coding challenges, technical talks, seminars, webinars, and industrial visits — GeekZone empowers students to extend their learning beyond the classroom. It also encourages peer learning, leadership development, and industry interaction by inviting experts and alumni to share real-world insights.

Key Objectives:

  • Promote awareness and hands-on experience in areas such as AI, ML, cybersecurity, web & app development, and data science.

  • Foster innovation through project expos, research paper presentations, and open-source contributions.

  • Support professional development through resume-building sessions, mock interviews, and career guidance.

  • Encourage team spirit and healthy competition through coding contests, quiz bowls, and fun tech fests.

 

 

 

Achievements

  • The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, proudly congratulates the student team comprising Crisbin Joseph (S8 CSE), Pournami S (S8 CSE), Theja Murali (S8 CSE), and Sayanth T M (S8 CSE), guided by Mr. Jithin S (AP, CSE), for securing the 1st position in RAET 25 (Recent Advancements in Engineering & Technology 25), a NAtional Conference organized by STM.

    Their Paper, titled “Automated Telegram Group Management System for Spam and NSFW Content Prevention”, showcased innovative approaches in AI-driven cybersecurity and privacy in telegram group management.

  • The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, proudly congratulates the student team comprising Anand K K (S8 CSE), Aysha Shama (S8 CSE), Hadhif Manoly (S8 CSE), and Afnas C P (S8 CSE), guided by Ms. Anu C (AP, CSE), for securing the 5th position in SIGHT 2.0, a nationwide technical expo organized by UST.

    Their project, titled “BrandGuard – An AI Driven Threat Intelligence with Sentiment Analysis”, showcased innovative approaches in AI-driven cybersecurity and earned recognition at the national level.

Activities

WORKSHOP ON FUNDAMENTAL OF BLOCKCHAIN AND ITS FUTURE APPLICATIONS AND RESEARCH DIRECTIONS 13-09-2025

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized an Online Workshop on “Fundamental of Blockchain and Its Future Applications and Research Directions” on 13th September 2025. The workshop was conducted through Google Meet from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The session was led by Dr. Randhir Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh, who provided insights into blockchain fundamentals, its applications, and potential research areas.

The event was organized in association with Geekzone and IEEE STM Chapter.

DIGITAL ELECTRONICS USING V-LABS 12-09-2025

The Department of Computer Science and Technology, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, in association with NITK, Surathkal, organized an online session on “Digital Electronics using V-Labs” on 12th September 2025. The session was conducted via Google Meet from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, exclusively for S3 CD, CSE, and ECE students. The event aimed to provide hands-on exposure to digital electronics experiments through Virtual Labs, an MoE initiative of the Government of India.

The session was coordinated by the student associations Datasphere, Geekzone, and Impulse, under the guidance of Ms. Anjana K P (AP, CD), Faculty Coordinator.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RECENT ADVANCEMENTS IN ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY 25 (RAET) 21-03-2025

The Department of Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized a National Conference on “Recent Advancements in Engineering & Technology ’25 (RAET)” on 21st–22nd March 2025. The conference featured Dr. Nobi E P (Scientist & Program Officer, Deep Ocean Mission, MoES, Government of India) as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Jibi G Thanikkal (Project Scientist, NCMRWF, MoES, Government of India) as the Guest of Honour. The event aimed to provide a platform for sharing innovations, research findings, and technological advancements across multiple engineering domains.

HANDS-ON SESSION ON INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING 17-03-2025

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized a hands-on session on “Introduction to Machine Learning” on 17th March 2025. The session was led by Mr. Akash M (S8, CSE) and Mr. Rithul A K (S8, CSE), focusing on providing practical exposure to the fundamentals of machine learning. The event was coordinated by Ms. Jithika M (AP, CSE) and Ms. Anu C (AP, CSE), and was conducted at Data Science Lab 2 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

SESSION ON INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT DEVELOPMENT 15-01-2025

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized a session on “Introduction to Project Development” on 15th January 2025. The session was led by final-year students Mr. Aswin Ratheesh D K, Mr. Crispin Joseph, and Mr. Abhishek U K (S8 CSE), focusing on the fundamentals of planning, executing, and managing software projects effectively.

The event was coordinated by Ms. Vaishakhi V K (Assistant Professor, CSE), along with student coordinators Ms. Rhuthoshika K and Mr. Mohammed Riyad (S6 CSE), and was conducted at Lecture Hall 5 from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, in association with the Computer Society of India (CSI).

WORKSHOP ON MASTERING LATEX SOFTWARE: A SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENTATION APPROACH 07-01-2025

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized a workshop on “Mastering LaTeX Software: A Scientific Documentation Approach” on 7th, 9th, and 10th January 2025. The sessions were led by Ms. Dinla O K (AP, CSE) and Ms. Anu C (AP, CSE), focusing on the effective use of LaTeX for scientific and academic documentation. The event was coordinated by Ms. Dinla O K along with student coordinators Ms. Aysha Shama M and Mr. Muhammed Hadhif, and was conducted at Programming Lab 1 from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, in association with Geekzone and FOSS Cell.

EXPLORING THE INDUSTRY: A JOURNEY INTO KELTRON 26-10-2024

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering & Data Science, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized an Industrial Visit to Keltron, Kannur on 26th October 2024. The program, titled “Exploring the Industry: A Journey into Keltron”, was arranged for S3 CSE and S3 CD students to provide them with industry exposure and practical insights. The visit was coordinated by Ms. Jithika M and Ms. Dinla O K, along with student coordinators Yashika Prashanth (S3 CSE) and Adithya Sujayan (S3 CD).

EXPERT TALK ON INTRODUCTION TO NUMBER THEORY CONCEPTS 25-10-2024

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, organized an Expert Talk on “Introduction to Number Theory Concepts” on 25th October 2024. The session was delivered by Ms. Subina K, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Science and Humanities, who introduced the fundamentals of number theory to the participants. The event was coordinated by Ms. Jithika M, Assistant Professor & HOD, CD, and was held at Lecture Hall 12 from 11:35 AM to 12:25 PM.

ONE-DAY HANDS-ON WORKSHOP ON QUICKSTART GUIDE TO WEB DEVELOPMENT 30-08-2024

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, in association with Geekzone and Datasphere, organized a One-Day Hands-On Workshop on “Quickstart Guide to Web Development” on 30th August 2024. The session was handled by Aswin Ratheesh (S7 CSE), Rajath P (Alumni, STM), and Crisbin Joseph (S7 CSE), providing practical exposure to modern web development tools and practices. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Jithin S (Asst. Prof, CSE), along with student coordinators, and was held at Programming Lab 1 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

HANDS-ON WORKSHOP ON IMAGE ENHANCEMENT AND SEGMENTATION 09-05-2024

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, Kannur, organized a hands-on workshop on Image Enhancement and Segmentation on 9th May 2024. The session was led by Dr. Amitha I C, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who shared her expertise in the field of image processing. The workshop was coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dinla O K and conducted at Programming Lab 1 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This interactive session provided participants with practical exposure and insights into advanced techniques in image processing.

Faculty Development Program on Virtual Labs - Online FDP by NITK 23-02-2024

The online faculty development program on Virtual Labs, conducted by NITK Surathkal was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering for the faculties and technical staff of various departments on 23 February 2024. 

The program started by 10.00 am with a welcome speech by Virtual Labs College Coordinator Ms. Sreerekha K P and after that HOD of CSE Department Dr. Amitha IC introduced the resource person's who are part of Virtual Labs Outreach Team at NITK, Surathkal. 

14 DAY WEBSITE DESIGN CHALLENGE 14-11-2022

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology, in association with Geekzone, VBLAZE and IEDC STM, organized a "14 day Web Designing Challenge" from 14/11/2022 to 28/11/2022. The session was handled by Muhammed Minhaj Mahroof (S7 CSE), Muhammad Rasi K P (S7 CSE), Isha Sudhir (S5 CSE), Rajath P(S5 CSE), Aswin Ratheesh (S3 CSE) and Sheetal Madhu (S3 CSE), providing practical exposure to modern web development tools and practices. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Jithin S (Asst. Prof, CSE) along with student coordinators, and was held at Programming Lab.
