Description

3D printing or additive manufacturing is the construction of a three dimensional object from a CAD
model or a digital 3D model. 3D printing is called as desktop fabrication. It is a process of prototyping
where by a structure is synthesized from a 3d model. The 3d model is stored in as a STL format and
after that forwarded to a 3D printer. It can use a wide range of materials such as ABS, PLA, and
composites as well.3D printing is a rapidly developing and cost optimized form of rapid prototyping
.The 3D printer prints the CAD design layer by layer forming a real object.
Nowadays 3D printing technology is not only used industries but also used at those places where
prototyping is an important constraint.
In our project we have focused on design and fabrication of a portable 3D printer. Even though 3D
printing is the current trend in industry, this technology is not widely accepted among common
people. The main reason for this is high price of a 3D printer and also the 3D printing technology is
very time consuming. So, our team has decided to design and fabricate a portable 3D printer with an
aim of fabricate printer with comparatively less price and also to reduce the printing time.
In this report we are discussing about the materials, 3D printing technology, software used, bill of
materials, feasibility study etc..
