Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) is an initiative of Kerala Startup Mission under Startup Bootcamp Scheme of Government of Kerala. Under this scheme financial assistance is given to selected colleges for supporting innovative products and thereby build an entrepreneurial eco-system inside the campus.

The mission of the IEDCs is to "develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions to foster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the faculty and students ".

Objectives of the IEDCs:

  1. To act as an institutional mechanism for providing various services including information on all aspects of enterprise building to budding S&T entrepreneurs.
  2. To create Entrepreneurial culture in the Parent Institution and other institutions in the region
  3. To inculcate a culture of innovation driven entrepreneurship through student projects.
  4. To catalyse and promote development of S&T knowledge-based enterprises and promote employment opportunities in the innovative areas.

Functions of IEDCs:

  1. To organise Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Faculty Development Programmes and Skill Development Programmes in the college/institution for the benefit of S&T persons.
  2. To initiate five innovative student projects each year for new innovative product development.
  3. To guide and assist prospective entrepreneurs on various aspects such as preparing project reports, obtaining project approvals, loans and facilities from agencies of support system, information on technologies, etc.
  4. To arrange interaction with entrepreneurs and create a mentorship scheme for student entrepreneurs.
  5. To facilitate creation of entrepreneur's club in each college to foster culture of entrepreneurship amongst students
  6. To arrange industrial visit to understand the present problems faced by the industry and propose innovative solutions.
  7. To act as a Regional Information Centre on business opportunities, processes, technologies, market, etc. by creating and maintaining relevant data bases.
  8. IEDCs would also sensitise the management of the institutions regarding the importance of entrepreneurship and integrate their activities with the Host Institutions.

  • 1st Prize in Start Up i3 (Ideate : Innovate : Incubate)

  • Shortlisted for Project Presentation at Kerala's Biggest Start-Up SME Conclave (Green Room)

    Two of our projects has been selected to present their innovation in Kerala's biggest start-up SME Conclave (Green Room). They are one among the 20 best projects selected from all IEDC's in Kerala.

    Team AJ5 from S6 Mechanical has won the first prize worth ₹15000 for their project presentation during "Startup i3" program conducted by Kerala Start Up Mission at UKF College of Engineering & Technology , Kollam

Activities

Idea Arena competition 16-05-2023

The IEDC division of St. Thomas College of Engineering and Technology conducted the Idea
Arena competition on May 16, 2022, to support the students' start-up concepts. From May 5
through May 11, students had to register and provide an abstract of their ideas. Teams with a
maximum of 4 people registered for the competition. In front of the jury, they presented their
idea. On June 13th, the final presentations were held. The event took place in Seminar Hall
and went on till evening. The IEDC team handpicked the judges for the panel.

BizTeck 18-04-2023

The IEDC division of St Thomas College of Engineering and Technology hosted the BizTeck
event on April 18, 2023. On the college campus, the event took place from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
The event was split into two rounds: an analysis of business failures and an entrepreneurial pitch.
It was made solely to support students in developing their business abilities. The criteria for the
event's judging were also created with this objective in mind. The requirements were
presentation, entrepreneurial thinking, critical thinking, innovation, problem-solving, and
persuasive skills.
Each round was given the appropriate amount of points, and there were a total of seven judges
allocated to the competition. Asst. Prof. Shreekiran Asst. Prof. Manu Thomas, Asst. Prof. Anju
G for the first round and for the second round Asst. Prof. Rahul M, Asst. Prof. Vijila
Balakrishnan Asst. Prof. Nithin C, Asst. Prof. Dhanyaja N was among the IEDC's handpicked
judges.
A total of 9 teams from different departments participated out of which the best team was
announced as the winner.

Start-Up Studio Launch 26-09-2019

I’M Startup Studio was launched at St Thomas College of Engineering and Technology with a vision of nurturing the very idea of entrepreneurship among the tech students on 26th September 2019 from college seminar hall. Dr. Shinu Mathew John (Principal) presided the function and the program was inaugurated by Mr. Nithin Madhavan ( CEO, Kannur Technolodge ). Thereafter he enlightened the students on why the startups need incubators. Mr. Aashin Muhammed (Marketing Manager of Tezzla Electric Bicycle) shared his startup experience with the students. Around 100 students attended the event. 10 students were selected as student ambassadors of startup studio and were awarded a badge.

IoT Application Development Workshop 05-03-2019

IEDC STM, ICT Academy of Kerala in association with Kerala Start-Up Mission is organized a two day workshop on IoT Application Development for IEDC students on 5th March -6th March 2019. This workshop was aimed to create a platform to learn various components, technique, and applications in IoT.  Furthermore it also help the Entrepreneur to build their product with industrial standards.

Foundation Skills on Entrepreneurship 26-09-2018

IEDC in association with ICT Academy and KSUM organized an inter college level 2 days workshop for aspiring students startup on “Foundation skills on Entrepreneurship” on 26th September to 27th September  2018. 32 students from different colleges including STM participated in the workshop

E –Waste Management Awareness Program 30-07-2018

A campaign was organized in the campus aimed to provide an awareness on E waste management on 30th July 2018. The campaign was inaugurated by the honorable Kannur District collector Mir Muhammed Ali.

A four day hands-on workshop on Website Development was conducted from 27th to 30th December’17. The sessions were handled by Prof. Jithin P (HOD, CSE Department). He has designed and developed 10 websites using open source technologies.

IoT Workshop 06-10-2017

A 2 day workshop on IoT was conducted by ECE department in association with IEDC. The workshop was taken by Epsilon labs and it covered all the basics to get started with the electronics/cloud industry. 21 students attended the program with the available IoT kit. The workshop covered following topics

IEDC Inauguration 07-04-2017

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) was inaugurated by Mr. C Rajan (Chairman, Kerala Dinesh Cooperative Society) by making a call which initiated a contraption mechanism, made by our students, which eventually led to Logo and video launch.
